Concert: Ukulele Night Featuring Victoria Vox and the Delta Jets, March 3rd

At long last I can announce the date of Kavarna's first Ukulele Night: March 3rd, 2006. Mark your calendars! This show should be nothing short of spectacular. Headlining the evening will be Victoria Vox, who should be familiar to many of you. Though she's recently moved to Baltimore, she'll always remain one of Green Bay's favorite local musicians. She's just put out a new record of songs (both her own and covers) that she's performed on the ukulele, it's called "Victoria Vox and Her Jumping Flea." (Click here for a review; click here for Victoria's online cd shop; and finally, click here to take a look at Victoria's very well put together website. Victoria's recently been sponsored by KoAloha, one of Hawaii's premiere makers of ukuleles. I think that's pretty exciting.

Also on the bill: Dale Anderson of the Delta Jets. If you've been listening to music in Green Bay, you're probably already familiar with Dale. He's been bringing the sound vintage delta blues to the region (as far South as Chicago!) for years now. What you may not know is that Dale is a ukulele fiend! Personally, I'm really excited to see him play a stripped down and unprecedented ukulele set. The Kavarna House Orchestra may also perform (if we can get enough practices in).

If you're scratching your head and asking yourself, why would I want to see an evening of ukulele music? Well, then you owe it to yourself to find out why by attending. There will be no cover for this event, (though&emdash;as always&emdash;there will be the expectation that you'll treat yourself to a beer, a glass of wine, or a fine coffee or tea beverage...) I promise you that there will be no finer place to be on a Friday night in early March in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

We're still looking to add performers to the list. Know any ukulelists? Do you yourself play the ukulele? Let us know!

UPDATE: We've added Nick Utrie and the Reverend Eddie Danger to the bill.

UPDATE 2: We've added Neal Paisley of Waukesha and Aaron Baer of, I think, Oshkosh.

Black Bean and Chipotle Chili

Made with fresh tomatoes, red peppers, onions, black beans and chipotle chili peppers, Kavarna's Chipotle and Black Bean Chili is spicy and good.

December 16, Songwriter's Showcase, 7 pm: Open Mic for Songwriter's! We've often been asked why we've never had an open mic at Kavarna. Well, it's simple. There are a lot of open mics out there already, and we wanted something a little different. The showcase is an open invitation to come and present original songs to an audience comprised of other songwriters (as well as the general public).

We send out an eNewsletter about once a month to share information of value (hopefully!) with our community, as well as to pass along special promotions and the like.
